Look around and you will find all types of aftermarket intake systems, but only a few of them are true cold air systems. What sets a cold air system apart from other aftermarket intakes is the way the manufacturer designs the system to pull cold air from outside the engine compartment. The best cold air intakes do not rely on one source for their air intake. With these intakes you will find as many as three opening in the intake box where fresh air from outside the engine compartment is routed to an oversized filter, giving your engine the cool air it needs when it needs it.

Today's cold air intakes are so effective that our customers have made them the number one performance upgrade. They have been proven to produce more oxygen in the delivery of air than their stock counterparts. True cold air intakes do this primarily by routing air from the front air dam or near the front wheel well through the throttle body or mass airflow sensor and down into the heads, finally reaching the combustion chamber. By avoiding sources of heat and tubing restrictions that can be found in most stock air intake systems, cold air intakes produce a denser air charge that in turn means there are more oxygen molecules to burn. Airflow is a powerful tool and if you know how to direct it you will gain more performance for very little investment.

Some manufacturers make bold claims of performance, but what they don't tell you is their systems were tested under ideal laboratory conditions. This makes it more difficult than ever to actually identify a cold air intake that works well for all types of road conditions. Some manufacturers offer a ram air scoop system that seems to embrace the concept of a supercharger without the price tag. Some are a closed-air box system, and others are open. There's also the snorkel system for off-road vehicles that might encounter water hazards. These new closed snorkel systems are incredible, and we've seen vehicles totally submerged and still continue to operate thanks to their design.

Our best advice for shopping is to ask a friend or a neighbor who might have a recommendation. Our experience shows that better quality manufacturers seldom exaggerate claims, and that the majority of the aftermarket does R&D on their products before they reached the end-user. It's easy enough to find out just by asking their technical team. We only carry the highest quality intakes. The last thing we want is a customer who has spent time removing their stock intake and installing the new one only to find out it didn't give the performance that the manufacturer claimed.
